Hello friends! Let me start off by saying Yay! I finally have a computer that works again! To all who may have thought I quit or died or quit metal and moved to dubstep, do not fear as this is not true. I have returned.
Without further ado, here is what’s going on in metal:
JUST LOOK AT THOSE HEADLINERS! You can guarantee that this is going to be one raging shindig! Download Festival 2013 is going to be quite epic. Oh how I wish I could afford to go to Europe. Just imagine how massive the circle pits will be! Tickets are on sale now and range from 170 euros to 205 euros. (You can figure out how many dollars that is. But it’s expensive.) They will be announcing more bands in the near future!
The long awaited Dethalbum III from the groundbreaking animated metal comedy, Metalocalypse, is set to be released soon. The date for the release is October 16th, 2012. (Right around the corner!) The track listing was released last month and is as follows:

The album is also set to release a vinyl edition of The Dethalbum III on November 6th. There will also be a deluxe edition that will also have a DVD that will include music videos, behind the scenes of the making of the album, and more assorted extras. Rad.
The latest video from the album was just released last week for the track entitled “The Galaxy”. It’s brutal. Check it here.
They have also released another video off of the album last month for the opening track off of the album, “I Ejaculate Fire.” If you have not seen it yet I am going to assume you live under a rock. If you have seen it already watch it again. Because it is awesome. Here you go!
Dethklok is also currently on tour in the states with Machine Head, All That Remains, and The Black Dahlia Murder. So even though the tour with LOG was cancelled they’re bringing back the brutality at the end of this month. If you’ve thought about flying out for a tour lately this is one you might want to consider. Here are the current dates. Take some time off work, empty that piggy bank, pack your most brutal band t-shirt, hop on a plane and go check out the genius that is Brendon Small. Tickets for the show are cheap at 36 bucks each so you can guarantee you will get more than your money’s worth.

So one of my favorite bands, Salt the Wound, have mentioned via Facebook that they are going to be releasing their fourth studio album soon! By soon I’m going to assume within the next year. They’ve mentioned that they’ve been in and out of the studio for the past few months and have been slacking on touring and a speedy recording process due to families and work, which is totally understandable. I don’t care how long it takes as long as it happens. I can and will attempt to be patient. Also with the new album we can hope to see some tour dates arise. If you haven’t listened to them before I do recommend you check them out and form your own opinions on them. Their last album is killer. Their second one isn’t that great. So stick to either Kill the Crown (2011) or Carnal Repercussions (2008).
If anybody out there digs Suffocation, they’re finishing up in the studio. After slaving away on the album, to be entitled Pinnacle Of Bedlam, since the August, they can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. The album is set to have 10 tracks. Keep you eyes and ears peeled for more news to come on this album. Here’s the band discussing the album.
The new Acacia Strain album, Death is the Only Mortal, is out! It’s brutal. It has a more digital sound, but I think most of the newer core bands are headed that way. (Or at least that’s what it has really seemed like in the past year’s releases.) I don’t care I dig it. It’s metal. If you like previous Acacia Strain material give it a listen. It does still sound just like their older stuff but with a slight twist.
REALLY STUPID HORRIBLE AWFUL NEWS:
MY BAND OF THIS GENERATION OF METAL, CARNIFEX, HAS ANNOUNCED THAT THEY ARE DISBANDING. (Yes I did cry.) They made this announcement via FB.
Fans and Friends.
First and for most, a sincere thank you is in order to our fans and friends across the world. Without your support and passion, we are nothing.
As of now, Carnifex is in a state of suspended animation. The reasons for this are many and complicated. Let me be clear in saying that Shawn, Cory, Ryan, Fred and I(Scott) are all still members of Carnifex. Let me also be clear in saying that although the future is very uncertain, I can say with optimism, that this is not farewell, but rather, until we meet again. Carnifex is now retreating into the obscurity we once came from. Be certain that us as individuals and as band mates have a true love for this band. Our desire to create our brand of art and music has never been about trends or money. These things will not decide our future.
We invite you to join us live, for the last time in the foreseeable future. We will be making these select dates as memorable as possible and look forward to seeing you there.
Dec. 21 – San Diego, CA @ SOMA Mainstage
Dec. 22 – Anaheim, CA @ Chain Reaction
Dec .23 – Hollywood, CA @ The Whiskey
– Scott Ian Lewis / CARNIFEX
It is just so sad. Granted they called it “a state of suspended animation” but I’ve heard stuff like this so much that I’m not going to be holding my breath. I would give anything to be able to see them before they disband.
Okay now that that’s over…
In local news:
So as we all know The Downstairs was closed. But now The Fiesta Room is open. For those of you who are unaware, The Fiesta Room is in the exact same place as The Downstairs but just in the room next door. So it’s pretty much the exact same thing. Same bands, same people, same idea. I support this because it is sad that the kiddos would have nowhere to watch the music. Now they do again. And props to the people running The Fiesta Room. Since the start they’ve really been working hard to get it up and going and throw up some successful shows. They’ve been attempting weekly shows and so far so good! If you’d like to support the local all ages scene (which you should!) here are some of their upcoming shows:
That’s right! This Friday AND next Friday there’s shows! Go to them!
And here is another all ages event: Make A Scene Presents Fatguy’s Last Stand: Underager Edition
It’s going to be held November 3rd and has a 10 dollar cover and some of the proceeds are going to Pump Up The Kids. Currently bands and location are scheduled TBA so mark your calendar and stand by. If you haven’t heard Fatguy is leaving KZND and so we are sending him off in style with some shows. Excellent.
The 21+ version: Make A Scene Alaska Presents Fatguy’s Last Stand At Chilkoot Charlies is the day before on November 2nd. It’s going to be a huge local show with 16 local rock and metal bands throwing down their best.
On The Make A Scene Alaska Rock Stage (lineup Subject To Change)
Men With Guns
On The Family Tree Presents Metal Stage (Lineup Subject To Change)
Bolt Action Beaver
City In Ashes
Make For The Morning
What a party! Hope to see you all there!
And of course we can’t forget ZOMBIEFIST 5. This is going down Saturday, October 27th at the Egan Center. Tickets are 30 bucks in advance and 36 at the door. Openers this year are Thera, Decepticide, Divides, and The Harlequin State. For anyone who is oblivious, Zombiefist always slays so if you’re looking for a pit that won’t disappoint you better be there! Also there is a COSTUME CONTEST with a 1000 dollar cash prize! Who wouldn’t want that?! So tis the season to bust out you’re most epic costumes and throw down to some classic Alaskan metal.
This has been a pretty viral image lately and I really loved it and felt it belonged here. So much respect for Bruce Dickinson.
Alright! So now that I’m back I’ll be giving everybody some updates on what’s good in metal. Sorry for the departure but now I have returned so all is well. ALSO a head’s up on what’s soon to come in the NEXT edition of the dose: My first interview with some local thrash favorites!! Be stoked because I sure am!! And of course thank you all for your patronage!
